Geomatics is a new domain concerning computer applications with and on geo-spatial objects. Geo-spatial objects are objects that can be identified by the location (in space and time). disciplines like navigation, mapping, remote sensing, geography and cartography merged together because of IT developments in both hardware and software. The emergence of low cost, high accurate satellite navigation devices has brought this domain in a complete new era. Current challenges involve the collection and actualisation of numerous geo-spatial objects, integration with other information systems, accessibility of data and organising (the exchange of) geo-information in and between organisations.
